How to install JDK8, WLS12.2.1 & OTD 12.2.1 on Oracle Linux

You have learned :

Now we proceed with the Demo creation.

In the previous POST we have putted JDK 8, WLS 12.2.1 & OTD 12.2.1 in the Shared Dir.

You can download these files from:

I have selected
Linux x64172.86 MB  jdk-8u65-linux-x64.tar.gz
But check if there is a new version :)

WLS 12.2.1
Select Fusion Middleware Infrastructure Installer (1.4 GB)

OTD 12.2.1

Select the release for Oracle Linux 64bit

If you have followed my previous POST, now:
- start your Oracle Linux VM and log in with the user weblogic/welcome1
- go in the directory /home/weblogic/Oracle
- now you will have:

Now we can proceed with the installation of, JDK, WLS and OTD.

JDK 8 is very simple to install, the file is a tar gz (in the file name is missing tar ...):
- go in the directory /home/weblogic/Oracle
- execute [tar xvf name_of_your_jdk_file]

Your JDK 8 is installed.

We can proceed with the installation of WLS 12.2.1:

Unzip the file:

Execute the jar file:

Click on Ok:

Click on Next:

Click on Next:

Select an Oracle Home, if you follow this guide I suggest:

Select "Fusion Middleware infrastructure With Examples":

Click on Next:

Deselect "I wish to receive ..."
Click on Next:

Click on Yes:

Click on Install:

Click on Next:

Click on Finish:

You have installed WLS 12.2.1 and you can find your Oracle Home "wls1221" under /home/weblogic/Oracle:

We can proceed with the installation of OTD 12.2.1:

Unzip the zip otd file:

Now you have a bin file to install: fmw_12.

ATTENTION: if you try to install now the OTD you will not pass the prerequisite checks (this, at the moment, happens in all the Linux distributions)

[On Windows you can install OTD from Windows 8.1 and with the last release of Microsoft Visual C++ 12]

To solve this issue you must execute the following commands (as root):

sudo su
yum install ksh
yum install compat-libcap1-1.10
yum install libaio-devel.x86_64
yum install compat-libstdc++-33.x86_64

Verify your LAN connection and that you are connected to internet, you need this for the yum command:

execute :
sudo su (welcome1)
yum install ksh

execute yum install compat-libcap1-1.10

execute yum install libaio-devel.x86_64

execute yum install compat-libstdc++-33.x86_64

execute exit command, so you change from root to weblogic:

Now you are ready to install OTD 12.2.1:
Execute the otd bin file:

Click on Ok:

Click on Next:

Click on next:

Select the Oracle Home created during the WLS installation:

Select "Collocated OTD ...":

Now the Prerequisite Checks is ok:

Click on Install:

Click on Next:

Click on Finish:

You have now installed OTD, all the otd files are inside wls1221 dir, in the next post we will configure WLS & OTD:

How to create an Oracle Enterprise Linux 7.2 VM on VirtualBox

You have learned :

Now we will create a Demo with WLS 12.2.1 and we will use some new features:.

The first thing to do is to download Oracle VM VirtualBox:

I'm working on Windows 10 so I have downloaded: VirtualBox 5.0.12 for Windows hosts  x86/amd64

Then you must download also the VirtualBox 5.0.12 Oracle VM VirtualBox Extension Pack  All supported platforms

The installation of VirtualBox is very simple, once you have installed it you can also install the guest addidion (Extension Pack) simply with a double click on it.

Now you can download OEL7 (Oracle Enterprise Linux7)

You must have an account (is the same that you use for OTN), if you do not have it, you can create a new one, it is free :)

Login on edelivery:

- Check the Linux/OVM/VMs box
- Select Oracle Linux in the Product field

- Select the correct Platform, I have Windows 10 64bit, su I have selected x86 64 bit

Do not warry, you do not need to download 10.6 Gb, after you can choose only the main file that is only 4.2GB.

Now you can download Oracle Linux 7, you need to download only the first file, just clicking on it:
V100082-01.iso Oracle Linux Release 7 Update 2 for x86_64 (64 Bit) 4.2 GB

Recup, now you have:

- downloaded & installed Virtualbox + Guest Additions (Extension Pack)
- downloaded the iso file of Oracle Linux 7

We can proceed in the creation of the Oracle Linux 7 VM:

- Start VirtualBox:

Click on "Nuova"

Assign memory, I have 16gb on my computer so I can assign 8192Mb, more memory you assign better performances you will have.

Now we must create a disk

A fixed dimension is for better performances.

The minimum space required is 12Gb, I prefer to allocate 20GB.

We are now ready to start the VM.

The Oracle Linux file that you have downloaded is an iso file, so you can click in the folder icon and load it. It will be mounted as virtual drive:

Click on the folder icon:

Open your iso file:

Click on "Avvia":

Now we can proceed with the installation of Oracle Linux, select Install Oracle Linux 7.2

If you click inside the window your mouse will be captured, to release it press the "Ctrl" button on your keyboard.

Select your preferred language

Now we must choose some preferences, click on the black icons

This is important for the correct keyboard

Here you MUST select Server with GUI and Development Tools (if you want you can add more software)

IMPORTANT: when you click on the icon "Installation Destination" the ONLY things to do is to click on the "Done" button, do not click on other items.

I have deselected KDUMP

Enable the Lan

Now you can click on "Begin Installation"

Choose a root password (mine is "welcome1")

Create an User: I choosed weblogic/welcome1

After the first reboot, you must select the firt item

Now you must accept the License

You can login on Oracle Linux 7 (click on weblogic)

At the first access you must confirm some preferences, then you can start working on Oracle Linux.

Now we will configure a Shared Directory so we can copy files in it from Windows and we can see the same directory/files inside the Oracle Linux VM:

Select "Dispositivi"->"Cartelle Condivise"->"Impostazioni cartelle condivise ..."

Choose a Directory on windows:

Select "Montaggio Automatico" (Auto Mount)

For Shared Directory and other important features (like the possibility to work in full screen mode on the VM) you must install the Guest Additions, select "Dispositivi"->"Inserisci l'immagine del CD delle Guest Additions..."

Click on RUN

Insert your password (welcome1)

Wait ...

You can see now on the Desktop sf_VmSharedDir, but user weblogic cannot access it, in the next steps I'll use the root user to move the file in a directory in the home of weblogic with all the permissions, so weblogic can use it.

I have created a new directory named "Oracle" in the home of weblogic

Look at the commands executed in the Terminal Window to access the Shared Dir:

In Windows10 I have copied the jdk, wls12, otd12 files in the shared dir:
In the next POST I'll explain where you can download these files.

You can see the same files in Oracle Linux VM:

I have copied the files in the "Oracle" dir [/home/weblogic/Oracle] and I have changed the permissions [chmod 777 *]

Exit from root, now weblogic user can use and install the software:
